Board of Directors of the Egyptian Public Library

- Presidential Decree No. 49 of 2006, amended by President of the Armed Forces Decree No. 67 of 2011, stipulates that the library shall have a legal personality and be affiliated with the Minister of Culture, and shall have branches in the cities of Cairo and Giza. The Board of Directors shall be the authority responsible for its affairs and setting the general policies that govern it, and it has the right to establish branches in the cities of Cairo and Giza. To issue decisions that he deems necessary to achieve the purposes for which they were established, in particular:

(1) Developing general policies that achieve the library’s objectives

(b) Issuing regulations governing the conduct of work in the library and taking into account standard and international specifications

(t) Issuing technical, financial, administrative, and personnel regulations without adhering to government regulations and systems

(w) Appointing the library director and his deputy.

(c) Approval of the annual budget and final accounts.

(h) Accepting grants, donations, and subsidies provided to the library.

(x) Proposing international agreements to be concluded for the benefit of the library.

(d) Establishing the foundations for cooperation between the library, cultural institutions, and corresponding libraries in Egypt and abroad.

(i) Considering all means that fall within the library’s jurisdiction that the Minister of Culture or the Chairman of the Library’s Board of Directors deems appropriate.

Since its inception, the Egyptian Public Library has been headed by Ambassador Abdel Raouf Al-Ridi, the former Egyptian ambassador to the United States and honorary president of the Egyptian Council for Foreign Affairs.
