The library in brief: 

The library is open six days a week from ten in the morning until seven in the evening, and its weekly holiday is Tuesday.

The library building is well-lit and ventilated, equipped with modern furniture and central air conditioning.

The library uses an integrated automated system that provides beneficiaries with many services, the most important of which is searching the library’s holdings.

Provides document photocopying service.

The cafeteria is open during library working hours.

Providing access to daily newspapers and magazines in the cafeteria.

Initiatives provided by the library:

  • Kattapedia initiative

Within the framework of renewing ideas that aim to raise external loan rates, the Egypt Public Library implemented the Katabpedia initiative, which aims to encourage everyone to read, create, and innovate in various fields in a simplified, interactive manner. It also aims to spread cultural and information awareness and encourage children to read and create in the simplest ways by covering various topics. To raise a generation of cultured young people who love reading at all ages, and to give the child space for freedom, as reading is one of the most effective and important means of human learning, as it increases the general knowledge and culture of the individual. Several topics were covered within the activities of the October Victory - the bottom of the seas, an initiative by Katepedia, including topics (No For bullying and the oceans - the human heart, a healthy body and teeth...)

  • Creative Librarian Initiative

The initiative aims to qualify and train graduates of libraries and other scientific specializations related to libraries, train library and information specialists within library institutions of all types, general school academics, children’s libraries, and organize field visits to learn about the latest developments in library services and technology in Egyptian libraries (general university and children’s libraries). The first phase of the initiative includes the implementation of several programmes, as follows:

The professional qualification program for the first stage includes the principles of descriptive and objective cataloging according to the MARC 21 system, where training in 8 programs includes: cataloging printed materials (books), periodicals, and community data, training in the electronic Dewey classification, cataloging using RDA rules, and training in the work of building and developing collections, authority control, and map indexing. The performance evaluation and automated systems program for the first stage includes training in the “Automated Symphony” program on electronic cataloging work, electronic program reports, electronic lending, community data entry, the Koha program, quality control according to standard specifications, and evaluation of library performance according to library standards. The Creativity Program in Public Libraries and Obtaining Training Grants includes, in the field of libraries, a presentation of creative aspects from a theoretical aspect and a presentation of practical applications while motivating participants in the process of creativity, presenting ideas, and presenting topics: Aspects of library management.

The library program is changing and includes planning seminar programs and activities for both adults and children, presentation skills, electronic marketing skills, photography skills to document activities, work spaces, and advertising design.

The Modern Technologies in Libraries program includes the Internet, the digital map, research skills in the knowledge bank, digital transformation, and the art of dealing with beneficiaries. The second season of the Creative Librarian Initiative includes “presenting a new axis for the initiative, which is the axis of early childhood leaders.”

  • The National Initiative for Qualifying Librarians: Egypt’s Public Library as a model

In implementation of the proposals of His Excellency Ambassador Abdel Raouf Al-Ridi, Chairman of the Library Board of Directors, the national initiative was launched to qualify librarians to work in public libraries (the Egyptian Public Library as a model), which includes six themes: administrative leadership in public libraries, the history of public libraries in Egypt, modern methods in public libraries, and transformation. Digital in public libraries, training, development, and innovation in implementing training programs, marketing, and managing social media platforms.

  • Cooperation with the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology

A cooperation agreement was signed between the Ministry of Communications and Information and the Egyptian Public Library in January 2001. The two parties agreed that the Ministry of Communications and Information would cooperate with the Egyptian Public Library in developing libraries in the field of information and communications technology in terms of mechanizing libraries, creating a network to connect libraries, and establishing information technology clubs in the library. The main office, its branches, and regional libraries, and providing libraries with the latest information technology means, including computers, communications networks, software packages, and training workers on the use of information technology.

Cooperation is also carried out with the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology through:

  • “More and Change” initiative

It offers free scholarships and training programs in the fields of information technology, programming, entrepreneurship, and others

  • Cooperation with the Culture Palaces Authority

A cooperation protocol was signed between the Egyptian Public Library and the General Authority for Cultural Palaces in October 2010. The two parties agreed to hold cultural and artistic events open to the public. The Egyptian Public Library and its surrounding area aim to develop the artistic and cultural sense of the public and encourage creativity among young people. These events are implemented as agreed upon. between two sides

  • Cooperation with the National Translation Center

Within the framework of fruitful cooperation between the sectors of the Ministry of Culture, the Egyptian Public Library, in cooperation with the National Center for Translation, produced the first translated audio book about the journey of goodness, “The Holy Family in Egypt.” The recording was made in the studio of the Egyptian Public Library, Al-Zawya Al-Hamra Branch, and after this book the first audio book It is issued by the Egyptian Ministry of Culture, and coordination is underway between the National Center for Translation and the Egyptian Public Library in recording many audio books as a new service added to the services provided by the Center and the Library.

  • Cooperation with museums affiliated with the Ministry of Culture

Based on the directives of Ambassador Abdel Raouf Al-Ridi, Chairman of the Library’s Board of Directors, to open joint horizons for cooperation with the Fine Arts Sector with the aim of spreading the culture of knowledge and arts and introducing museums and the services and activities they provide to the community, a cooperation protocol was signed between the Egyptian Public Library and the Fine Arts Sector at the Ministry of Culture in the month of October 2018, provided that the areas of cooperation include developing museum libraries, providing them with a number of books appropriate to the nature of the museum, training museum workers, especially those in charge of implementing cooperation with the Egyptian Public Library in the field of libraries and information, and developing an annual plan and monthly program for holding exhibitions in the fine arts sector in the Egyptian public library system and work. To introduce members of Egypt’s public libraries to exhibitions and museums, encourage them to visit them, organize the mobile museum within Egypt’s public library system, exchange experiences, ideas, and proposals related to spreading the culture of reading, plastic arts, and museums at the local and regional levels, and hold joint art workshops and seminars in fields that serve culture and enlightenment, and present projects. And national initiatives related to the fields of libraries, plastic arts, and museums, and the exchange of publications between the two parties, as well as redundant books.

  • This protocol was activated by developing the library of the National House Museum and equipping the library of the Revolutionary Leadership Museum in cooperation with the Library of Alexandria

A cooperation protocol was signed between the Public Library of Egypt and the Library of Alexandria in March 2016. The two parties agreed to support direct scientific communication between them to introduce the achievements made and build bridges of cooperation in the areas of organizing lectures and workshops and exchanging participation in conferences, exhibitions, programs and activities, and for the Library of Alexandria to make a copy of its publications available. And its publications for Egypt’s public libraries, cooperation in the field of training and training courses held by both parties, and the preparation of joint studies in the field of public libraries and their role in the progress and growth of society, through field opinion polls and the exchange of experts in all branches of library science to support the continuity of development and professional education and cooperation in the field of serving the blind. Through specialized training programs for workers in the field.

  • Cooperation with BOOKS FOR AFRICA

Within the framework of the cooperation protocol between the Public Library of Egypt and the Library of Alexandria, the Library of Alexandria

By nominating the Egyptian Public Library to receive a children’s book grant of 30.00 books submitted by

The American BOOKS FOR AFRICA Foundation mostly contains children's books, and officials at the Library of Alexandria sent lists of publishers available to the donor organization to choose appropriate books for the library.

Its branches are in Zaytoun, Al-Zawya Al-Hamra, and the regional libraries. The library contacted the donor and concluded a memorandum of understanding to receive the books, and a customs broker was appointed

Follow up the shipment and complete the necessary procedures.

On 02/28/2019, the books were received by the library and were added to the library’s custody and distributed to the libraries.
